Honoring the love you still carry
The Heart Behind No Space Between: Companion Animal Grief Educator Margaret Hall
The Heart Behind No Space Between
I created No Space Between as a space for people grieving beloved animal companions.
I’m a Certified Grief Educator, Veterinary Nurse, Companion Animal Death Doula, Animal Chaplain, and Reiki practitioner, but more than anything, I’m someone who has lived this kind of love and loss many times.
This work grew from both personal experience and years in feline rescue and shelter medicine. It is rooted in the belief that grief deserves companionship, presence, and room to unfold in its own time — not pressure to “move on.”
My Story
I lost my original soulmate cat, Nikki, in 2008. In the wake of that loss, I began volunteering with a local feline rescue, eventually serving for three years as medical coordinator. During that time, I adopted many cats with medical and behavioral complexities, and “the clowder” was born.
Over the years, my home has held anywhere from sixteen to twenty cats at a time. Loving so many animals has also meant living through profound and repeated loss. Since 2010, I’ve said goodbye to twenty-six beloved cats, each of whom shaped my life in different ways.
Nordy was one of the deepest bonds of my life.
He came to me as a tiny flame point Siamese kitten and quickly became my constant companion. He slept on my chest each night, joined me in meditation and Reiki practice, and carried a quiet steadiness that changed me deeply. Every day, I looked into his eyes and said:
“Nordy, you and I share the same heart, the same soul — there is no space between us.”
He died from juvenile bone marrow cancer at just three and a half years old. Our time together was heartbreakingly short, but the relationship we shared continues to shape this work every day.
No Space Between is named for that bond, and for the enduring connection so many people continue to carry with the animals they love.
from find me there, by Sara Rian
i'm sorry I couldn't follow you there,
i could only walk you to the door.
it doesn't mean i didn't want to.
I just needed to stay.
so many of us need to stay.
to teach. to love. to honor. to wait.
your time was cut short
and there is work to be done.
it won't bring you back to me
but it will bring you to others
and you are too beautiful to keep to myself.

How I Hold Space for Your Grief
In our work together, I lean on a Continuing Bonds approach to grief. This means we honor that your relationship with your beloved does not simply disappear after death. Love, memory, and connection can continue in new forms over time. My work is also informed by Reiki practice, meditation, ritual, and an awareness of how grief lives in the nervous system, particularly in moments when words feel out of reach.
These sessions are peer support, not clinical therapy. I don’t diagnose or treat. Instead, I sit beside you as someone who understands the complexity of loving and losing an animal deeply.
There is no timeline here and no expectation to “move on.” We go at your pace, honoring your grief, your nervous system, and the bond that still remains. Together, we make room for both the ache and the devotion you carry.
